Some Interesting English Phrases PART 12

Here I am publishing interesting English Phrases along with an examples. These are edited from the Famous Telugu News Daily - Eenadu by 'Shri M Suresan'

33) Shot the works  = past tense of 'shoot the works' 

Example: 
P1: The diamond necklace Anitha had on yesterday was very attractive.   
P2: Yes. One could shoot the works to own such a necklace 








34) Throw in the towel =  Accept the defeat. 

Example: 
P1: At one stage, he had run out of all his resources. It appeared as though he would throw in the towel. But he held on. His uncle came to his rescue, and he completed it 
P2: Is that so? I inquired of him where he got the help from, but he is not one to shoot his mouth 






35) Shoot the mouth off = Boast or talk too much/ to tell secrets to others 

Example: 
P1: Can I share a secret with you? 
P2: Go ahead, I am not the one to shoot my mouth off.
